Amazon.com Product Description

At 99 square feet, the Sierra Wu Hu Annex basecamp tent offers all the space a family will ever need. The tent, which can sleep four or six depending on the configuration you choose, offers a revolutionary Tunnel Dome design that acts like two different tents in one. The Wu Hu Annex mimics a tunnel tent in its spaciousness, with a large, comfortable sleeping area. However, the tent's freestanding structure also sets up as easily as a dome tent, with a pair of covered entrances for maximum convenience. As a result, you can stretch out in comfort or pack a ton of people inside. The tent even comes with a divider, so you can configure the tents as two separate sleeping rooms or dedicate one room to storing your gear.

The Wu Hu Annex 6-person tent with rainfly and vestibule.
In addition, the tent is tough and long-lasting, with a 70-denier polyester body and 68-denier polyester fly.

Features:

  • Bathtub floor: The tent's raised, taped perimeter seam keeps water from seeping in.
  • Drop door: The tent doesn't include a zipper at the bottom of the door, thus keeping out cold air drafts.
  • Dye-free optic white canopy: Optic white canopies transmit light more effectively to create a brighter and more pleasant environment inside the tent. Sierra Designs produces the optic white canopy without the use of chemical dyes.
  • RCT swift clip: This twist clip from DAC clips perfectly to any pole diameter and removes with a simple twist.
  • Vented vestibule:
The vented vestibule allows for additional air circulation.

Amazon.com Tent Guide
Selecting a Tent
Fortunately, there are all kinds of tents for weekend car campers, Everest expeditions, and everything in-between. Here are a few things to keep in mind:

Expect the Worst
In general, it's wise to choose a tent that's designed to withstand the worst possible conditions you think you'll face. For instance, if you're a summer car camper in a region where weather is predictable, an inexpensive family or all purpose tent will likely do the trick--especially if a vehicle is nearby and you can make a mad dash for safety when bad weather swoops in! If you're a backpacker, alpine climber or bike explorer, or if you like to car camp in all seasons, you'll want to take something designed to handle more adversity.

Three- and Four-Season Tents
For summer, early fall and late spring outings, choose a three-season tent. At minimum, a quality three season tent will have lightweight aluminum poles, a reinforced floor, durable stitching, and a quality rain-fly. Some three-season tents offer more open-air netting and are more specifically designed for summer backpacking and other activities. Many premium tents will feature pre-sealed, taped seams and a silicone-impregnated rain-fly for enhanced waterproofness.

For winter camping or alpine travel, go with a four season model. Because they typically feature more durable fabric coatings, as well as more poles, four-season tents are designed to handle heavy snowfall and high winds without collapsing. Of course, four-season tents exact a weight penalty of about 10 to 20 percent in trade for their strength and durability. They also tend to be more expensive.

Domes and Tunnels
Tents are broadly categorized into two types, freestanding, which can stand up on their own, and those that must be staked down in order to stand upright. Freestanding tents often incorporate a dome-shaped design, and most four-season tents are constructed this way because a dome leaves no flat spots on the outer surface where snow can collect. Domes are also inherently stronger than any other design. Meanwhile, many three-season models employ a modified dome configuration called a tunnel. These are still freestanding, but they require fewer poles than a dome, use less fabric, and typically have a rectangular floor-plan that offers less storage space than a dome configuration. Many one and two-person tents are not freestanding, but they make up for it by being more lightweight. Because they use fewer poles, they can also be quicker to set up than a dome.

Size Matters
Ask yourself how many people you'd like to fit in your fabric hotel now and in the future. For soloists and minimalists, check out one-person tents. If you're a mega-minimalist, or if you have your eye on doing some big wall climbs, a waterproof-breathable bivy sack is the ticket. Some bivy sacks feature poles and stake points to give you a little more breathing room. Also, if you don't need bug protection and you want to save weight, check out open-air shelters.

Families who plan on car camping in good weather can choose from a wide range of jumbo-sized tents that will accommodate all your little ones with room to spare. A wide range of capacities is also available for three- and four-season backpacking and expedition tents. Remember, though, the bigger the tent you buy, the heavier it will be, although it's easy to break up the tent components among several people in your group. It's also helpful to compare the volume and floor-space measurements of models you're considering.

Product Description

The two room Wu Hu 4+2 use innovative Tunnel Dome pole structure to create a strong and spacious freestanding family tent. The rain fly covers the entire tent in inclement weather, but rolls back to expose just the front room, "short sheets" from the bottom up if you want to add ventilation, or removes entirely in nicer weather. A back door allows quick entry/exit to the main sleeping area, and the front room affords room for two more people in larger groups.

I used to be a go light camper. I now have a family and we needed more room. This tent fit us well. Plenty of room for my wife and kids and not so heavy I feel like I took the house. Fairly Easy to setup... well the tent and pole colors could be a little more different on the sleeves. There are 2 grey ones. One light and one dark. Having 2 rooms is great. If we take it to the beach we use the small room as a porch letting some bug in. Then sleep in the large room bug free since we only opened the door once. If you need a big tent that is flexible, bright, tall, and much better made than most big tents this is it. We haven't gotten stuck in a real downpour but I know it won't be a problem with this big fly. Have fun

5.0 out of 5 stars Great tent for a family of 4, May 18, 2011

We purchased this tent after reading many good reviews on a various websites. And we've also found a pretty good deal of $340 at alssports.com.

It was really easy to set up and lots of room for all 4 of us. Our boys are energetic and don't like a low ceiling and a tightly squeezed space that have a little room to stretch their legs and flap around their arms which might cause them to wake each other up during their sleep. Just using the main 4-person sleep room feels spacious for all 4 of us to sleep and keep the 2-person room as storing all the backpacks & clothes with dirt/sand on one of our trips.

We look forward to camping with it more and report more cons and pros afterward.

This tent definitely lives up to the quality and innovation that Sierra designers is known for. Unlike many other brands, up you can actually fit the number of people claimed. It is sturdy, easy to assemble (once you know how) and keeps you dry.

The good news is that this tent can be set up very quickly. Be warned tht the set up is not immediately intuitive. The instructions that come with it leave something to be desired, the instructions on line are much better. I would highly recommend that you set it up in the back yard prior to your first adventure. That being said, once you know how to do it, set up is exceptionally quick for a tent of this size.

This is not a backpacking tent, far too heavy for that. As a family camping tent is is very light and packs up nicely. Very spacious and comfortable. As with most tents, getting the matching footprint is a good idea.

Not the least expensive tent out there but you can find it on sale and will not... Read more
